Google Gossips 1

Here i start the topic of my fantasy. Google's a fantasy for me all the time. I wonder how on earth did a guy get an idea of a universal search engine right back in 1997. I had been watching the google spreading right from my class 7. (my first day @ internet cafe taught me amateur googleing).

And so I would like to present my various observations on google.com . This is not a pure techie thread like in google's official blog. Its just observations and aspects that caught my interest.

So now here are my observations on a standard google search page, particularly the changes in past 5 years.
left one's the search page five years bak...and right one is present days' .
The modifications that google had bought about in its search page are,,
  1. The ad box on top changed its background color from blue to yellow. Also, the clickable area in the link got restricted to just the link, and not the full box.
  2. The logo got smaller. The search box and search button on the other hand got bigger.
  3. The blue bar changed its color and is brighter now. Google didn’t change it at once, but took an intermediate blue step, perhaps to make the change less noticeable.
  4. The result width is restricted to a maximum. Previously, on very large screens the page filled the whole width, and ads were positioned on the far right.
  5. The phrase “Similar pages” has been shortened to just “Similar”.
  6. The category label, reading “Web”, is using a smaller font.
  7. Google does not show the file size anymore for every page.
  8. There’s a “Show options...” link on top. There’s plenty of smaller changes for specific results, too, like the different oneboxes Google added in the meantime, or features like sitelinks, immediate spelling-corrected results and more.
  9. The text “Sponsored links” at the top of the right hand ad section is left-aligned, not centered.
  10. The link to the preferences to the right of the search button is gone; you can now access the search settings via the top link.
  11. The link to the definitions of your search words, shown in the blue bar to the right, is pointing to answers.com instead of dictionary.com.

(Many of the changes not pointed out here are more structural in nature, like indexing speed – which increased a lot –, indexing depth, as well as ranking approaches, which are nevertheless very important factors in how well a search result answers the user query in comparison to other competing engines.)

Speaking frankly, Google tried to be as loyal as possible to its users with only these minor changes. It tried to make its search page as simpler and effective as possible.

Well, wonder how the google search page looks like in 2014.?...
